Membership

Although the Society was originated by college teachers and has always had its office on a university campus, it is not exclusively academic in its membership. Its members are doctors, lawyers, bankers, ranchers, farmers, businessmen and women, and housewives. Anyone may join, whether a resident of Texas or not. Libraries and other institutions also belong to the Society and have continuing subscriptions to our publications.

The Society is a nonprofit organization; money received from dues pays the cost of printing or purchasing the annual volume. The small margin left over from the sale of books to nonmembers is applied to the expenses of the office.

Member Benefits include:

  • Each Member or Family receives the annual publication or some other folklore book selected by the editor for distribution in the years when a book is not brought out by the Society.

  • Members receive a 20% discount on purchases of TFS books from Texas A & M University Press.

  • Members have the opportunity to share folklore with other members through presentations and conversations at meetings.

  • Members have the opportunity to submit folklore papers for possible publication in the annual volume.
