Secretary-Editor, presided over a joint session with the
East Texas
Historical Association at their fall meeting in Nacogdoches on
September 23, 2011. The session was very well received. There were about
40 people in the audience.
Anne Shelton (Austin) gave a paper entitled "Handcrafted
Gravemarkers of East Texas."
Thad Sitton (Austin) gave a paper entitled "Stomp and
Gouge: Speculations About East Texas Folk Fighting."
Jack Duncan (McKinney)
gave a paper entitled "I'm Here to Tell You!: Family Vignettes from
the Depression Era." and
Jerry Young (Mesquite), gave
a paper entitled "Recalling a Texas Legend: A Retrospective of
Samuel "Booger Red" Privett."
In addition, TFS member
L. Patrick Hughes (Austin) presided over a session
entitled "Families and Celebrities" in which
Winston Sosebee (Midland) gave a
paper entitled "East Texans Move West: Two Families Make the Trek."
