| Secretary-Editor Ken
Untiedt presided over a joint session with the East Texas
Historical Association at their fall meeting in Nacogdoches on
September 27, 2008.
Former President Henry Wolff
and President L. Patrick Hughes
read papers. Henry's paper, "Buried in Texas, Any and Every Which
Way" (with PowerPoint show of graves and tombstones) and Patrick's
paper, "Hobo Heaven: The Big Rock Candy Mountains" (with recorded
songs and some of his own guitar picking) threw some humor and
entertainment into the historical mix for a group of about 35 (a
good size for a single session). Henry's paper will appear in the
2008 PTFS Death Lore: Texas Rituals, Superstitions, and
Legends of the Hereafter.
Ken followed up with a brief history of the Texas Folklore
Society and an invitation to the TFS Centennial celebration meeting
in Nacogdoches on April 9-11, 2009. Ken's paper about TFS will
appear in the spring 2009 East Texas Historical Journal. |
