National Cowboy Symposium

The 2010 National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration in Lubbock on September 9-12, was dedicated to the memory of renowned western author (and long-time TFS member) Elmer Kelton.

At the American Cowboy Culture Awards Presentations on Thursday evening, the Kelton family was presented with a special award honoring Elmer.

Kenneth W. Davis, enlisted the help of TFS members Sara and Wallace McKee and Bob Carr and members of the Lubbock Westerners group to operate a Texas Folklore Society information booth at the Symposium. TFS office secretary and treasurer Janet Simonds, also attended the event and assisted at the booth. A lot of people stopped by to talk about folklore and the Folklore Society and took brochures. Two people joined on-the-spot.

TFS members Kenneth Davis, Len Ainsworth, and Sylvia Mahoney emceed events. Charles Williams and Rick Holstead participated in the poetry and story events.
